This is my largest acrylic painting that i have ever done. Measuring at 100 cm in length, by 40 cm in width the painting will be a statement piece in any room.
It is of course depicting the beautiful home of the famous poet Lord Byron. Newstead Abbey. The stunning abbey is actually the backdrop of this piece, with the monument for his beloved Newfoundland dog Boatswain in the foreground. After the dog sadly passed in 1808 of rabies, Lord Byron himself commissioned that there be a large, ornate marble monument for him, to be placed near the ruins of the old priory church. Which is where he believed the altar previously stood. The monument is inscribed with Lord Byron's famous poem 'Epitaph to a Dog'.
It is believed that the monument was the only building work that Lord Byron ever did during his residence at the abbey.
